A pure hand needs no glove to cover it...
While American novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne may have been trying to describe the pure beauty of the female hand, he would ultimately prove to be incorrect. People have been desiring gloves since ancient times!
The first known gloves were worn in an attempt to keep the hands warm, but as the years moved forward, gloves would prove useful for gardening and rough work. Gloves sprang up in Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome... all cultures wanted to know of the glove.
Gloves were also a status symbol: members of the aristocracy wore 5-fingered gloves very similar to my short every day glace gloves, while members of the working class wore a compromised glove/ mitten of 3 fingers.
