Style Surfing – the Dita Style
Who hasn’t heard of her yet...? Dita von Teese, a sensual and elegant American burlesque artist, model and actress.
Von Teese entered the scene in 1993, as she started to perform burlesque and has helped to popularize its revival worldwide ever since. Nowadays this style icon is part of the international fashion top, with indispensible appearances at Hout Couture fashion shows and parties. Von Teese has become a face for several big fashion brands and therefore is admired by many women. Vanity Fair called her as "a Burlesque Super Heroine" and frequently dubbed "the Queen of Burlesque", which makes us even more curious about her incredible appeal.
In her own words, she "puts the tease back into striptease" with long, elaborate dance shows with props and characters, often inspired by 1930s and 1940s musicals and films.
Dita von Teese describes herself as a corset fetish (she owns more than 100 corsets!), high heel lover (“without high heels I won’t step out of the house’), and loves to experiment with other extremes like bondage or latex. But judging her by only the lasts words would be wrong: watching her shows and photographs, Von Teese shows an amazing elegant and sensual side as well. A style combination that empowers her celebration of femininity: corsets, high heels (or even point shoes!), feather fans and long elegant gloves. Von Teese uses her style and choreographies to celebrate the feminine sexy side in a strong and untouchable way. And exactly that is why we love her!
